As a huge baseball fanatic, I personally find this story inspiring and facinating. It is a true story based on the events that transpired in the mid-90s in the life of Michael Volpe, a baseball fan who had an idea to manage his frustration with the Giants by offering himself as a fan for hire. To his amazement, he was given VIP treatment by major league and minor league teams who wanted to prove that they could treat him, representing the fans, better than anyone else. Media followed this story everywhere and built up the big day when Michael Volpe, the free agent fan, would choose his new team. I won’t spoil that for you. Andrew Volpe, his son, did an admirable job as a first time filmmaker documenting this story. It is an award winner and remains one of my favorite films in the IFI collection.
