The Disciple explores the story of a young man who is being raised in a cult. Cults come in many forms and most will use and pervert existing faiths to try to convert people to their beliefs. Although these cults may use words and symbols of other faiths, they should not be allowed to pervert the honest true teachings of long held faiths, like Christianity. There are many cults today that attempt to pervert the Christian faith, such as the Universalist, Unitarian, and Scientology churches. Other mainline denominations, claiming to represent the Christian faith, have also gone astray and submitted to wordly standards instead of keeping the core principles of Christianity. It is vital to determine what faiths truly teach and believe before jumping into one. It is also important to ask what does that faith really mean to you and what have been the results of that faith on mankind throughout history. Real Christianity is often confused with Catholicism or some other denomination and often blamed for mistakes of those denominations. The reality is that the Bible and true Christ followers have done more good for mankind than any other world religion because real Christianity is not a religion. It is a relationship. All world religions are about man doing certain things or following certain rituals to try to illicit a response from a divine being or God. Christianity teaches that man is born sinful and cannot attain heaven or a response. It further teaches that therefore, God had to reach out to us and make a bridge that we can be in His presence. That bridge is Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to destroy the sinful nature of mankind so that we might have a relationship again with our creator God. That is real Christianity and anything that teaches other things is just another wordly religion where man tries to work or do something to please God. Christianity is the opposite of religion. This filmmaker states that He did not make this film to comment on religion, but rather to comment on how religion can be twisted to benefit certain agendas, which is very prevalent today as it is weaponized in our politics and even used to invalidate the effects of great tragedies.
